On May 27th, 2025, the VicTory Project hosted its first co-joint panel, uniting leading experts, practitioners, and key stakeholders to focus on the often-overlooked needs of victims impacted by hate crimes and (violent) extremism incidents.
The two-hour event provided a valuable platform to present key findings from a recent desk research and a comprehensive survey carried out within the framework of the VicTory Project. Participants took part in dynamic, solution-oriented discussions, exploring gaps in existing victim support systems and the practical challenges encountered by frontline professionals. One of the key findings presented was the disconnection between legal provisions and their implementation in practice. While laws exist to protect victims, they often fail to translate into tangible, day-to-day support. The overarching conclusion of this event was: Victims must be empowered throughout their journey within the criminal justice system, not only recognised but actively supported and equipped to navigate complex procedures with agency and dignity. As the VicTory Project continues its work, the insights shared during this inaugural panel will serve as a foundation for future action-driving forward policy recommendations, practical tools, and collaborative strategies to ensure victims are not only heard but meaningfully supported every step of the way. |
