VicTory training approach: Exchanging experiences towards empowerment

Published: 20/08/2026
The VicTory project just concluded its three in-person training events, gathering professionals coming from law enforcement, judicial authorities, civil society and policy-making from all the partners countries. Starting off in Brescia, under the hosting of Associazone Carcere e Territorio, the new dynamics of hate and extremism were discussed, starting to explore the meaning and implications of a victim-centred approach. It was an opportunity to learn from real experiences, namely:
  • Learning good practices and challenges in creating networks of support to mitigate the impacts of violence
  • The real impact of terror acts, felt through the powerful voice of a victimised person

With the foundations established, the VicTory project moved to Budapest, this time under the organisation of the Hungarian Helsinki Committee. The focus was on practical tools and mechanisms to ease victim support in cases of hate and extremism. In specific, communication principles were explored, delving into the importance of plain language and empathy. Moreover, the VicTory group enjoyed a human rights tour around the city, understanding how intolerance can become institutionalised and ways to mitigate it.

Lastly, we moved up North, with the hosting of Map Finland in Helsinki. This time, for three days, the VicTory group embarked on an immersive restorative justice experience. From exploring the theory behind it to building a restorative circle, the 3rd and last training event showcases alternative and comprehensive approaches to hate and extremism.

Together, these 3 events reflect the project’s impetus to building impact through practitioners, advancing victim centred and restorative-led solutions to hate and extremism.
