Held on June 3rd, 2025, and building on the success of the first panel, this second event gathering brought together experts, practitioners, and representatives from key institutions to examine how restorative practices can strengthen support for victims.
The event featured insightful presentations from Ararteko, the Ombudsman of the Basque Country, and APAV - Victim Support Portugal, who shared valuable perspectives from their respective national experiences on the potential and importance of deploying restorative principles. Delving into how to integrate restorative practices into victim support frameworks, the importance of terminology, respect, and political commitment were stressed. Importantly, participants agreed that victim-responsive systems must respect victims’ timelines and needs, allowing healing to be promoted. Cross-sectoral solutions were emphasised as a major need by participants, applying to victim support in general, but also to cases of hate and extremism, showcasing these as shared responsibilities. As the VicTory Project continues its mission, these panels mark significant milestones in identifying practical gaps, amplifying the voices of victims, and fostering cooperative approaches. |
